Focusing on staff development is
an important part of a technology leader’s job. In the 21st century,
teachers need to develop their technology literacy and technical skills to help
students achieve in this digital world. A technology leader is one who helps
teachers and administrators become more productive, better
communicators/collaborators, and improve facilitation of learning in an
educational setting. The International Society for Technology in Education(ISTE) has put together a task force to identify emerging technologies to
improve and support student learning. Example focus areas, categories that
technology can fall into in a school or organization, which can be identified
on a school’s campus, are organizational capacity, curriculum and instruction,
infrastructure management, and operational capacity. Using the resources available,
we can identify what focused area needs to be addressed by the technology
leader or the “gatekeeper” of technology for the educational organization that
needs to develop staff skills in technology.
