Personal Philosophy of Learning and Professional Goals From An Instructional Design Point-Of-View

Personal Philosophy of Learning and Professional Goals
One’s educational experience helps shape their worldview, how they think about the world around them.  Learning should be a lifelong endeavor to improve oneself and make connections to their environment through their worldview. I believe that the bridge between academia and career is an important structure in one’s life and needs to be reinforced for professional and personal success. Instructional design is needed to create authentic learning experiences to help shape worldview of those who participant in the academic forum. By setting goals and expectations, encouragement of making the most of opportunities and support options, identifying resources and following framework of learning experiences, and capitalizing on assessment of readiness and potential outcomes, one will be as prepared as they can to be successful. As a professional educator, by encouraging students to develop 21st Century Skills in and out of the classroom and be in engaged in their learning, they will have a better chance of being successful and happy.
By designing a set of goals with a pre-determined time frame, I can better prepare myself to encourage and facilitate learning for students and prepare them for the future through instructional design. My set of professional goals focus on preparing students through digital literacy and developing 21st Century Skills to compete and succeed in a digital environment. Although my professional goals are written as a general statement, I understand that they may change and evolve as new digital technologies emerge and new ways of doing work materialize.
As an educator, one of the goals of my philosophy of learning is encouraging students to prepare for success in college and career by continually develop lifelong learning skills reflecting on interests and opportunities available, and providing academic content that is relevant to real-world situations. I try to incorporate what I have learned from my professional experience in to the curriculums and lessons that I teach in designs of curriculum and learning experiences. Through my professional experience, I have learned that using technology is essential to being a viably skilled citizen in the workforce due to the nature of work and globalization of many industries. Since technology is a dynamic entity, the need to keep up with new and emerging technologies is needed. I strive to learn about new technologies so that my students will learn about new technologies.
Another goal that I am pursuing for proving my personal philosophy of learning is to empower learners to take responsibility of their learning through extracurricular or academic organizations to enrich and encourage post-secondary and career options. As a secondary and post-secondary level educator, I know that learning does not stop when one leaves the classroom for the day. There are plenty of clubs and organizations that allow students to learn new skills and practice them.
I believe that I can strengthen my philosophy of learning by including objectives to enable students to use data to make informed decisions by developing my technical skills and research available resources to create structure in the classroom, and provide academic and professional relevancy. Using real-world scenarios and situations can help learners prepare for what might come. Using various training models can improve technical skills to make sharp decision making and analytic problem solving ability. Gathering meaningful information is essential to decision making. Having a creative mind is necessary for problem solving. Combining the two skills prepares students for the workforce and even entrepreneurial achievement.
Lastly, my professional goals, I believe, will help embolden learners to invest in their education and disseminate indicators for college and career readiness, through measurement of skills through post-secondary circumstances. I think that there is a gap between what skills academia thinks students need and what industry thinks works have. There is a disconnect. I believe that the two entities need to work together to create a better prepared workforce. By listening to employers and businesses, I believe that I can help those become equipped to handle the work environment. By introducing industry certifications, I help students gain skills that make them qualified to work in a productive environment that creates goods or services that provide for our citizens, nationally or globally.
Conclusion
Education and learning supports people expanding their worldview and understand the world around them. As a professional educator and instructional designer, I believe that I can help those who seek to learn and become well, exploring their world and understanding it better. A career is an evolving work in progress. School and work should not be separate to one’s career. They both should intertwine as a person evolves in their academic and professional career, changing the person’s thoughts and ideas in a positive, constructive behavior. By encouraging others to learn and develop skills, I can help bridge the gap between academia and the workforce and improve people’s lives.
